When Kylie Najjar canceled a birthday party she had planned for her two sons because of the coronavirus, her family was devastated.
“Obviously we know it’s better to cancel,” Najjar said, “so it makes the pill easier to swallow.”
Fun Quarantine Party Ideas
The first project was to set up a Spiderman themed group for 4 and 1 year olds. A ball pit, bouncy castle, and climbing equipment are available.
Even later, Najjar wanted to come up with a way to mark her 1-year-old son Jai’s birthday in a special way. Using a few items from Home Depot, he created an isolation drawing. She wrapped the toddler in caution tape and held the baby in front of a sign that read “Quarantine 1st Birthday Party, No One Invited.”

The mother did not let the pandemic get in the way of celebrating her son’s first birthday with joy.

“I want to do something that people can look back on and realize that we tried to find the funny side in a sad situation,” Najjar said.
The Australian mum posted some photos to a Facebook group called Party Mums and posted some photos on her own Facebook page.
The post got thousands of likes, and Najjar said she got messages from parents asking her to make similar flags.
Najjar fills in several requests, but is unable to fulfill them. They provide ready-made files for students to download.

The crafty mom also made Jai’s favorite foods: fruitcake, pancakes with bananas and blueberries, and fairy bread – toast with butter and sprinkles on top.

My son Ryan has been looking forward to his birthday and his birthday for months. (Yes, the moon!) They turned four today and helped me choose the theme of the party and the whole party. Just like his mom, this kid loves to party! He’s young so he doesn’t know what’s going on or why school is closed or why he can’t go to the park with his friends. Balloons are like my secret weapon when planning a party. A little expensive, but very effective! Balloons can be a great infusion of color and create a fun party atmosphere. Try to get a bag of several balloons, or balloons in the color scheme, to fill (with air!) the room with balloons! We love waking the kids up with a balloon shower – it’s a fun way to start the day. Plus, air-filled balloons last for days (and days and days! I’m talking weeks, y’all!) so you’re also creating a fun activity that will last a long time, except for birthdays.

Today’s technology is a blessing! Use some form of streaming like Zoom, Google Hangout, or FaceTime for a virtual celebration. It’s a great way to safely mingle with your grandparents and friends! Schedule a happy birthday song, and write or email your virtual guests so everyone can call when it’s time to celebrate your boy or girl’s birthday!
It was great to see the children’s faces light up at the big, colorful signs in their own yard. A few weeks ago I posted on Facebook about Ryan’s canceled birthday, and I wanted to shower him with a card to show that people were thinking of him. I’m not one to make requests like this, but I’ve seen the power of social media in the past and thought I’d give it a try. Your whole body. I was just blown away by the response! Lots of cards sent in the last few weeks! Like most children, Ryan loves letters. And I’m sure it will bring happiness. I’m going to put the cards and letters in the mailbox and ask him to get all the letters.
