We started our Tasmanian itinerary when we landed in Hobart and picked up a rental car from Drive Car Rental, a small company that we found cheaper than the bigger car rental companies.

Hobart is a great starting point for a trip. But be sure to take the time to explore the country’s capital as well. There is so much to see and do in Hobart. also the coolest place to eat and drink in the area. If I have to mention the highlight, it would be the food! We were amazed at how much we love Hobart. It really has this special charm.

The Salamanca and Battery Point area is definitely a favorite. Explore the famous markets in Salamanca Square and the historic lanes around Battery Point to learn more about Hobart’s history.

We came here to experience the west coast and this beautiful fishing village. It was a perfect stop on the way to Cradle Mountain.

Strahan is also home to the most magical Airbnb we’ve ever stayed at. If you’ve seen the Instagram Stories of Captains Rest in Strahan, you’ll know how much I love this beautiful beach cottage. Our stay here was like walking into a real life romance novel. The perfect setting for a Nicholas Sparks love story!

Things To Do In Strahan, Tasmania And The West Coast

After resting at Captain’s Rest After that, we drove to Cradle Mountain. From Strahan, it’s about a two-hour drive to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. There are so many great hikes and spots on Cradle Mountain, you could spend a few more days here. day It is the peak of our trip.

We left early to see the sunrise at Dove Lake. which has a stunning mountain view. There is also a quaint boathouse on the lakefront. It is very beautiful and peaceful to see the golden hour here. It’s also the perfect place if you’re looking for Instagram-worthy Tasmanian attractions!

To go to the lake to see the sunrise You can park your car in the national park which is located about 2km from the lake. Dove Lake car park is currently closed due to construction. If you visit during the day You must park at the front gate and take the shuttle bus that operates between 09:00 and 17:00 in winter and 8:00 to 18:00 in summer. You can check parking and pickup information. Post everything here

During our visit We decided to hike up to Hansons Peak which offers an incredible view of the lake and peaks. Also check the opening hours of the park as you cannot park near the pavement between 8am and 7:30pm, you can only take the shuttle in and out. But the last bus is at 19:30, so you have to go back to your car if you miss it. I recommend leaving your car in the park before 8am so you can get back to your car easily!

How Much Does It Cost To Travel Tasmania?

The hike to Hansons Peak is about 4km (2.5 miles) round trip and takes about 3 hours round trip. It is quite easy but also steep. So I recommend good shoes. and a good coat because it’s very windy up there!

Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is beautiful in summer and winter. For a cheaper alternative to the park or wilderness adventure experience, check out Waldheim Cabins or the park’s camping options.

Mount Roland is about an hour north of Cradle Mountain and is home to the incredible Eagles Nest Retreat, so I highly recommend renting a car and planning a self-guided tour of Tasmania. so you don’t miss a great stopover like this.

Launceston is also very popular in the summer when the lavender fields are in bloom. We visited nearby Bridestowe Lavender fields. And spend the morning watching purple fields and eating delicious lavender ice cream. Highly recommended. Ice cream 10/10.

Lavender blooms for just a few weeks each summer. Therefore, you should plan your trip during the lavender season if you want to see this amazing place in full bloom. The website is great for letting you know when the flowers are blooming.

No road trip to Tasmania is complete without a visit to the Bay of Fire! The amazing red rocks contrast with the turquoise blue water and it’s crazy, I’ve never seen anything like it in Australia.

We arrived at sunrise and spent most of the morning exploring the fiery red rocks and crystal clear rock pools by the bay.

One of our favorite spots in the Bay of Fires is Binalong Bay for its incredible sunsets and powdery white sand. And the best advice is to head to the right side of Suicide Beach where you will find the quietest and most secluded place to enjoy the evening.

Money Saving Tips To Help You Travel Australia On A Budget

Bay of Fires Bush Retreat is a wonderful retreat in the Aussie bush with bungalows, rooms and glamping options. Just a short drive from Binalong Bay, or check out all the amazing budget options on the beach, such as Scamander Tourist Park, Station House.

You can spend a few days in the park, trekking, camping and enjoying the white sandy beach and the green nature around you.

During our visit We tried to climb Mount Amos which is famous for the panorama of Wineglass Bay. This walk is not for the faint hearted. Although the road is short, it is incredibly steep and slippery. So wear proper trekking shoes!

If you stay here again You can easily walk all day or walk overnight. It will take you to a quiet area and a campsite on the beach.

Where To Stay In Tasmania In 2023

Unless you’re camping in a park or hiking overnight. All accommodation close to the national park can be found in the stunning Coles Bay Freycinet Lodge located right at the entrance to the park, and the location of the park, together with the choice of luxury accommodation, excellent value for money.

Budget accommodation options in the area are tough unless you’re camping. But this backpacker accommodation is a good option if you are on a tight budget.

On our second day in Freycinet, we had an unforgettable experience with a beautiful morning flight over the National Park area. We flew with the amazing Freycinet Air and it gave us unreal views of the beach and landscape. Best we’ve seen in Australia.
