Peru is one of our favorite travel destinations. Rainbow Mountain is amazing and colorful, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu are amazing and fascinating, the Amazon rainforest is an inspiring wonder, and the cities of Lima and Cusco are full of fun! But…as beautiful as it is, how much does a trip to Peru cost?

When we sat down to plan our 10-day trip, we also thought about the price of a trip to Peru. We learned that the exchange rate was advantageous (1 Peruvian sol at $0.30), but flights, hotels, tours, etc. how much does it cost?

If you live in the United States, you’ll find that flights to and from Peru’s main international airport, Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport, are relatively inexpensive. Flights from our hometown of Cleveland to Lima are $600 or less per person using Skyscanner, our favorite flight search engine.
If you live in a larger city like Chicago, Miami, or New York, you can score flights for under $400 per person! In Miami, you can get flights for under $300 thanks to Avianca and LATAM direct flights to and from Lima!
If you’re worried about the cost of flying to Peru, you get the picture, it’s very affordable depending on where you live or fly to.

However, if you can’t find a good deal or don’t have miles to burn, then I recommend breaking up your flights. American Airlines flights to Lima are 17,500 miles one-way or 35,000 miles round-trip. United has great deals at around 40,000 points for a round-trip flight to Lima.
When in Peru, flight prices are cheaper when flying to places like Puerto Maldonado for the Amazon or Cusco. Direct flights between cities are under $100 per flight thanks to LATAM and Peruvian Airlines. Flights from Lima to Puerto Maldonado and Cusco to Lima cost about $150 each.
The total cost of flying to Peru is between $200 (if the trip is canceled) and $750 per person, including domestic flights.
Travel to Peru can be considered more affordable than hotels. You can go super budget and do hostels in Lima and Cusco for around $10 for a hostel or $25 for a private room.

For other destinations in Peru such as Urubamba, Ica, and Puno, hotel rates are around $50-$75 per night. Hostels in Urubamba, Ica and Puno are around $5-10 for a dorm and $18-35 for private rooms.
Average hotel rates in Peru are $10 per person per night for hostels, $25 for private rooms in hostels, and $75 per night for mid-range hotels.
Although this counts as part of the hotel and service, I made this a separate category because while not everyone gets to go to the Amazon Rainforest in Peru, it was truly the highlight of our entire trip! I 100% recommend going to the nature reserve and diving, seeing wild howler monkeys, getting up close and personal with macaws and seeing jaguars!
Getting Around Peru
The crazy thing about visiting the Amazon Rainforest is that it can be very cheap and very expensive!
If you’re looking to save money, Ecoaventuras Amazonicas is a great home base for getting to the Amazon, just 40 minutes from Puerto Maldonado airport, and it’s only $25 a night! Again, it’s hostel style with dorms, but if you’re really on a budget, it definitely works!
If you want to live in luxury or just like to splurge sometimes, the best Amazon trip in Peru is the Tambopata Research Center, located in the Tambopata National Reserve. Away from the road and deep in the rainforest, you will see many animals. And the lodge itself is absolutely gorgeous! Also they only have 3 walls in the room which means there is an open wall to hear the sounds of the jungle at night. I can’t recommend it enough.
This hotel costs around $616 per night. Yes, it looks expensive, but it includes all meals, activities, and transportation to/from Puerto Maldonado airport! Well worth it in our book – I mean, how often do you go to the Amazon rainforest?

While in Peru, you may want to take part in some day trips and tours. Although this can range from a Lima food tour to the full Inca trek, costs can vary greatly. They also vary whether you order online or on the spot.
We booked most of our tours and activities online, and while it might be more expensive, we like to know that it’s all set up and we wouldn’t miss out on the activities we wanted to attend. Our cost includes the following costs:
In total, we spent about $790 per person, or $1,580 for the two of us, on our trip to Peru for day trips and activities.
These are, of course, average costs. You can choose a cheaper Machu Picchu Peru tour for $270 per person or Rainbow Mountain for $38. However, our Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley tour was perfect for those who don’t want (or don’t have the time) to do a multi-day tour with hotel access, and we arrived at Machu Picchu early. crowd.

This was also true for our Rainbow Mountain tour, as we were the first on the tour and ran into a crowd of cheaper companies on the way down the mountain.
I would recommend all the tours we did over and over again, but if you’re on a tight budget, you can get around $328 per person for tours and activities.
If there’s one thing you really don’t have to worry about in terms of price, it’s food in Peru. You can get a delicious dinner in Peru for $15 a person, a beer or coffee for $2, and Pisco sours for $5.
Basically, you won’t spend a lot of money on food and drink in Peru unless you plan to visit some of the country’s fanciest restaurants. We mostly went to mid-range restaurants, street food, and had one great dinner at Gaston Por Acurio for our anniversary in Cusco.

Total cost of food and drink in Peru: We spent about $485 on travel in Peru, or $242.50 per person, or just under $25 per day per person.

For those on a budget, expect to pay around $4,200 for the central area if you’re a solo traveler staying in mid-range hotels, visiting the Tambopata Research Center and spending more around Peru. As a couple, the price is about $6,200.
As for our budget, we spent about $5,000 for the two of us on our trip to Peru. We discounted travel, stayed at the hotels listed above, hiked up the tours and stayed at the Tambopata Research Center.
