But let’s not ignore golf. King’s and Queen’s designed by James Braid have two of Britain’s finest indoor courses, courses that exude class and a long-lasting atmosphere. King’s is a star, World Top 100 course with the perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment for club golfers. The Queen is happy; Playful and fun, a course you want to play again and again. So, not the wealth of golf in Bandon, but for families and couples especially, there is no better golf course in the world. Possibly the biggest number 2 we’ve had in our entire Top 100. What a place.

It had to be Bandon Dunes. With FOUR amazing courses in our World Top 100 and a competitive fifth on that list, this golf mecca in Oregon had to be our No. 1 vacation spot.
As our rating system shows, we’re looking for resorts that offer more than great golf, and while Bandon’s accommodations and especially the non-golf destinations are lacking compared to many on this list, the four courses in the World’s Top 100 are impressive. So much so that Mike Keizer’s break broke our marking system. Bandon’s 40/40 score on its courses would mean other resorts scored undesirably low. Thus we have adjusted Bandon’s points, so that some of them seem more reasonable.
Five 18-holers – from David McLay Kidd, Tom Doak (2), Bill Coore-Ben Crenshaw (2) – and a brilliant Par 3 of 13 holes are reasons to fly in Oregon. There are two inns, 44 cottages, a massage center, fishing and hiking. But it’s all about golf – and, arguably, the biggest show in the world.
